| Goal |
| Our goal in Community Building is to organize community-building initiatives in collaboration with diverse organizations and residents in order to promote mutual understanding, advocate for justice and build community capacity. |

| Purpose |
The face of Orange County is changing and with change comes resistance and conflict. OC Human Relations is in place to mitigate the effects of change and promote the opportunities that exist in living in a multi cultural society, develop strategies for how our county can build bridges of understanding and envision and create a future where everyone is valued, included and respected.
How do we accomplish our work?

We accomplish our goal through the following focus areas: |

| Police Community Relations |
| We build relationships with law enforcement and between communities by positively responding to police complaints, connecting with Orange County Police Chiefs and Sheriffs Department, coordinating the Orange County Police Advisory Committee, conducting police trainings at the Sheriffs Academy and at different police trainings and working collaboratively to build connections between local police and schools and communities. |

| Hate Crime |
| We create community awareness of hate crimes by: assisting victims of hate in collaboration with the Hate Crime Victim Assistance Partnership, conducting 4 Hate Crime Network meetings per year on relevant hate crime issues, developing and publishing the Annual Hate Crime Report, conducting presentations and educational events, and promoting reporting of hate crimes in schools and underreporting communities. |

| Human Relations |
| We improve inter group relations by developing educational events and trainings, advocating for justice, and developing intervention initiatives in collaboration with, colleges/universities, city human relations organizations, and non profit organizations and members. |

| Capacity Building |
| We work with targeted communities by providing technical assistance, parent and community leadership and bringing people together to address issues through capacity building initiatives in targeted Orange County areas. |
