Reported Hate Crime Down in Orange County, 3 Communities Remain Main Targets

The 2014 Orange County Hate Crime Report, published by the Orange County Human Relations Commission, shows reported hate crimes were down overall in 2014. Violent hate crimes, or crimes against people, were down slightly and crimes against property (vandalism) decreased as well. However, hate crimes that targeted African American, LGBTQ, and Jewish people remained the top offenses.

Gloria Banks is one of six diverse community leaders being honored by OC Human Relations at Awards 44, celebrating justice, diversity and the human spirit. In addition OCHR will honor three distinguished businesses from throughout Orange County. OCHR also will present a community policing award and a distinguished school award.

Local Unsung Heroes Celebrated

OC Human Relations honored eleven local, unsung heroes at the AWARDS 44 celebration on Thursday, May 7 at the City National Grove of Anaheim. The organization recognized a diverse array of community leaders, law enforcement, schools and local businesses. This nonprofit celebration was presented by SoCalGas, with honorary chair, Keith Swayne. Thanks to everyone who sponsored, attended and assisted for making this an evening to remember.
