After racism allegations at football game, Santa Ana and Aliso Niguel high schools engage in dialogue

Aliso Niguel and Santa Ana high schools made national headlines in September, but not in a good way. Santa Ana High School’s principal Jeff Bishop posted on social media that his students were insulted and offended during a Sept. 8 football game at Aliso Niguel High School when students chanted “USA…USA” when their team won and holding up “Trump 2020” signs and campaign posters.

Hate Crimes rose 17% last year according to FBI

Reported hate crimes in America rose 17 percent last year, the third consecutive year that such crimes increased, according to newly released FBI data that showed an even larger increase in anti-Semitic attacks. Law enforcement agencies reported that 7,175 hate crimes occurred in 2017, up from 6,121 in 2016. That increase was fueled in part by more police departments reporting hate crime data to the FBI, but overall there is still a large number of departments that report no hate crimes to the federal database.

On August 25, 2018 the 3rd annual Barrio Run in the ABC Neighborhood, organized by OC Human Relations Community Building team and ABC neighborhood residents was held. The main goal was to unite the community and showcase safety in the neighborhood. Residents were invited to join in a run around the community to promote health and unity
